This is just stupid. My twins Cato and Casey(check youtube for Twinjas if interested)
train and wear gear and are now blue belts. To think that kids are regularly taking shots to the head or even receiving kicks to the body at this tender age is lunacy. Once in a while my boys spar in full combat gear but after I saw it the first time after I filmed it I thought I would put a stop to it. Something could easily go very wrong. Tournaments are usually tame and never involve all out fighting or submissions. This is going too far. It ain’t little league.

Why is this any different than learning Judo, Karate, or Taekwondo 20 years ago. Maybe the instructors are not wise old asian guys but it is still pretty similar

This is a sport like many other sports. Aside from martial arts, hockey, boxing, wrestling, and to an extent even football all carry serious risk of injury to children. Why would it be OK for a 6 year old to learn wrestling and not martial arts?

In the clips the kids are striking, they are clearly wearing protective gear. They overly focused on the grappling training where gear is not needed (you aren’t punching/kicking), giving the impression that these kids are beating eachother senseless.

THIS IS TRAINING A KID TO LACK EMPATHY. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL JUST END UP AS LIFERS AND NOT SERIAL KILLERS.

The only concern I have is the apparent lack of mental discipline that is stressed in real martial arts. The comments by the kids were disturbing. Broken bones don’t bother me, I say if you did not break a bone as a child, you missed out, but in learning fighting skills of any sort, mental discipline and morality come before any combat technique. If not, they are thugs in training. Just like firearm training. You never train someone how to shoot before training them safety and the appropriate times to fire a weapon first.

My family and myself have been involved in martal arts and have truly enjoyed the friendship and comradery! Good training centers frown on ego driven motivation. After that little girl was taken by the hand and molested and murdered I forgot her name but saw the vid on the news, our whole house was heart broken because if she would have know some simple techniques she would be alive today. Well supervised instruction for kids is very safe! I have trained kids as young as 4 years old and seen their confidance blossom and have a blast! Number one rule never do this out side the dojo and it works with 99% of the kids. The other 1% are just mean to begin with and at least we had a chance to explain their social responsibilities in regards to violence towards outhers.

Merely cretin idiots abusing kids and pretending it is appropriate parenting. These are not adults, this is not sport. This deserves criminal prosecution of the fools promoting it for their own ego and macho self estimeem. The kids are just their personal cannon-fodder to make them think they are manly. They are trash.

How has no one considered Jujitsu in all this? Jujitsu is not illegal and LOTS of kids do it…its a complete focus on submission and joint locks amid other things. We are so afraid of things these days!? Boys have a warrior instinct and to put that out is to steal from them. Sure go on telling our boys to be “safe” and then watch the obesity rate continue to rise. Sure set some rules to it, there will always be idiots to it…but come on, its not that bad. Kids play pop-warner tackle football and break their arms all the time…yet no one is complaining.

My best friend growing up took Karate from the time he was in fifth grade until he graduated high school. He could have beat up anyone his age but he never once got into a fight with anyone. He only used his skill while at Karate practice. He was taught discipline while most other kids his age would fight anytime they were provoked. Karate taught my friend a lot of valuable life lessons.

Hey, I think this is great! I mean the state will get all over you if you spank your young-un. So now all ya hafta do is tell the little brats that your gunna get little Johnny down the street to come down and give him a proper beatin.

Look for the silver lining folks.

Enough of this activity among kids, and just wait and see what health care will cost in the future.
