Colorado State Rep Tossed From Floor for Calling Immigrants ‘Illiterate Peasants’

"I would like to have the opportunity to state at the microphone why I don't think we need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in Colorado," State Rep. Douglas Bruce (R-Colorado Springs) said.

Exactly where was the comment “incorrect” ? It seems acceptable when the president of the U.S. refers to Americans as racist, bigots, xenophobes, etc. when defending illegal aliens and that is politically correct according to the ethnocentric groups. Oh, yeah. They don’t like the word “alien”, either, although the term is in the federal law. “Immigrant” seems to be the word of choice to mix and mingle the legal with the illegal. . However, describe the cheap labor participants as to their status, and it’s just wrong. This hypocrisy is sickening.

We need a few more politicians who have the backbone to stand up and call it like it is instead of trying to sneak in immigration laws that rewards illegal aliens with citizenship and benefits.

It’s the American people who are becoming the illiterate peasants through our overloaded schools that spend more time teaching English to the children of illegal aliens than they do other studies to the rest of the students. We’re also paying the taxes to support the benefits of illegal immigration and are starting to feel like peasants ourselves because we can’t scrape together enough money to take care of our own families.

It would be a cold day in Hades before I would apologize for the remark that was made. The truth doesn’t please everyone. But, then, we seldom hear the truth about anything do we ?

Joseph   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:38 pm

Out of line.

Please fight against illegal aliens, but if there is a government program for it, then they won’t be illegal. Calling them names is pretty coarse and belongs in political talkshows, not on the floor of a legislature.

It’s not bigotry or racist, but it’s coarse and unnecessary.

Paul   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:39 pm

Why can this man not say what he believes? Is it really healthy for a democracy when people are being silenced for speaking out about their concerns? Of course it’s not. This political correctness is just more liberal fascism. It is contributing to the destruction of this country.

California Confederate   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:44 pm

Thats Modern America for you. Say it how it is and get shouted down for it. No wonder nothing gets done, we are too caught up in political correctness.

I second what he said, but I’ll change it to suit my position a little better.

“I would like to have the opportunity to state at the microphone why I don’t think we need 5,000 more illiterate peasants” sucking off the Public Teat in California

BlueMax372   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:46 pm

This man speaks the truth. Let’s dispense with politically correct stupidity.

Man_at_work   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:49 pm

Very accurate and appropriate description of illegals. It is also polite in my opinion compared what people on the ground call this locust.

debbytennis   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:50 pm

Right on Rep. Bruce!!! Freedom of speech seems to only apply when it is “politically correct” speech. The “lady leader” should have her mic turned off…and her pandering is pathetic.

Smiller   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:51 pm

Finally someone who calls it like he sees it!

ILLEGAL’s are not welcome in the USA!

lemming   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:52 pm

As usual the omitted information is that Rep. Douglas Bruce is a democrat. otherwise he would be referred to as Republican Rep. Douglas Bruce.
If no party is mentioned it usually means democrat in these situations.
Just an observation :-)

Deco   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:54 pm

hmmm, methinks the congressman doth speak the truth.
PEASANTS:
1. A member of the class constituted by small farmers and tenants, sharecroppers, and laborers on the land where they form the main labor force in agriculture.
2. A country person; a rustic.
3. An uncouth, crude, or ill-bred person; a boor.

ILLITERATE:
1. unable to read and write: an illiterate group.
2. having or demonstrating very little or no education.
3. showing lack of culture, esp. in language and literature.

Can someone tell me where the congressman went wrong, after all these are non-English speaking poor folks, which is OK except these mexicans absolutely refuse to learn english..damn shame too.
We won’t know what hit us until it’s too late. Ahh daddy is that a nuclear bomb…uhh no baby, it’s a composition of highly purified uranium combined in a form that can be dispensed for maximum damage” ….how pathetic this PC nonsense

Claudia   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:56 pm

I happen to agree that Rep. Bruce spoke the truth. Check out Webster’s dictionary…the words are not inflamatory or a slur! For the most part they cannot read/write and they do work in agricultural fields – thus the word peasants. I am tired of all this crap about immigrants…I am all for legal immigration…I am against illegals – regardless if they are farm workers or not. The ones we really need to kick out and keep out are the drug cartels, gangs, all around criminals! Those who feel “sorry” for the illegals do not deferentiate the difference between the type of immigrants.Note to Bronco: these farm workers are making far more money that they can send to their families in Mexico than they could made in any part of Mexico. They also benefit with our free schooling, medical treatment, social services, etc. that we the tax payers are supporting. I’m all for them if they hold up their end of the bargin and oh by the way, quit flying the flag of Mexico in the U.S.

JelloBiafra   April 22nd, 2008 - 3:58 pm

How could any illegal be offended?

If they saw it in a paper, they couldn’t read it…

If they heard it on the radio or TV, they wouldn’t understand it…

As far as I’m concerned, it’s like flipping the bird to a blind man. It’s only the socialist hippie liberal that gets offended, not the illegal.

Spencer   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:07 pm

Free speak….I guess unless you don’t like or it comes from a conservative!

Zack   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:08 pm

And of course, more inbred bigots on here fail to notice that this is a *GUEST-WORKER PROGRAM* and they are not ‘illegal’–and the term ‘illegal’ absolutely makes no sense, they are undocumented and their actions are illegal, the immigrant is no illegal.

Of course, the idea of ‘people’ being objects rather than just that (people), is no stranger to you racists bigots is it? I bet you’d just love to enslave all those ‘dirty brown folk’ down South huh? Nevermind the fact that California and Colorado state constitutions protect spanish-speaking rights (remember, they belonged to Mexico and Spain first).

John Fox   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:09 pm

The representative was absolutely correct. We don’t hate them, but we don’t want to enable and encourage them to come or stay.

TDB   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:11 pm

Liberal hate Free Speech. Bruce for Prez.

nelson c   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:11 pm

Lou O.   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:15 pm

How come you elected people who don’t agree with this man? I know..You folks didn’t pay any attention to the folks you elected, most liberals and tree huggers.

Jeremy   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:18 pm

In my experience living in Indiana and suburban DC, I thought it to be a very accurate comment. To a Democrat, free speech is only free if they say it can be free. Controlling speech controls thoughts and actions. Part of the Marxist textbook. I say build the wall, post armed guards, and if they keep it up, send in the Texas state militia who are still wanting revenge.

Franc   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:24 pm

HE was right. These politicians are there to represent Americans not illegal aliens. Illegals get endless freebies including welfare, food stamps, housing vouchers (free apts), health care and the list goes on and on. All paid for by American taxpayers. Give the guy a medal for telling the truth.

Literate Taxpayer   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:27 pm

Typical government cowards, more outraged over a statement of fact rather than the illegal alien invasion.

Keep it up. Political correctness is on its way out. People are sick of it.

Mike, Eugene, Oregon   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:29 pm

Someone tells it like it is and is punished for being politically incorrect. What a sad day. Illegals take jobs from American workers. In the “global economy” companies scour the globe, searching for rock bottom labor and production costs. The victims are the American people. In this vicious zero sum game, the American work can only compete for jobs by taking every lower wages and doing without benefits. The government piles on by giving away access to Medicaid and Medicare, uses OUR JOBS to buy the cooperation of Canada and Mexico and China and India for their lame, bankrupt foreign policy gambits. Then, conservative talk radio and FOX blames them for not “understanding” the new world economy and liberals want to dump even more illegals on us and grant amnesty to the 30 million of so parasite already here. This next Fall, when food and energy and basic commodity prices have wrecedk our economy and our children are starving becasue those same corporations and investors can get more money by shipping our food to China and India and Europe, when protests and riots break out in major cities and small towns across the country, I am going to be waiting to see which candidate calls for “law and order” and which candidate calls for a revolution to dump “free trade”, round up illegals and ship them out and keep them out, which candidate sides with us against the multinationals and corporations and Wall Street swine. Free trade is treason!

He made absolutly no racist remarks. In fact, he made a pretty accurate statement in my opinion. You on the other hand decide to ignore relevancy, stereotype the south and use a racial slur in your “defense” of illegal immigrants. Another fantastic example of the hypocritic left. Bravo.

DJH   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:40 pm

Zack – your continued pathetic attempt to characterize anyone who disagress with illegal immigration as racist shows the weakness of the arguement in favor of illegals as well as an obvious lack of intellectual capability to convey a rational and coherent arguement on your behalf.

You are, of course, dead wrong in your attempt to use political correct semantics to change the arguement regarding their status. Legally speaking, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS, period and 70% of the country said “ABSOLUTELY NOT” to amnesty because their presence here is most definitely illegal.
Now, being human isn’t illegal but they also do not have a right to work or live in the United States. The only rights they have are basic human rights (not to be beaten, robbed, etc.) and the rights under our legal system. They can however be rounded up, hunted down, jailed and deported (as they should be).

Whether or not illegal aliens were offended by his comments is completely irrelevent, being offended isn’t a crime and until real public discourse is allowed instead of these BS liberal cries for political correctness that are designed to curtail the freedom of speech or to re-direct the arguement, it won’t get better – but the American people are getting fed up with it and if illegals don’t like it then they can freakin’ leave! The whining about being offended is hilarious to begin with, if they weren’t in a place they weren’t supposed to be to begin with they wouldn’t be offended.

Americans by and large are not racist and don’t have any problems with immigration, LEGAL IMMIGRATION. These scumbags who sneak into our country, breaking our laws, filling our prisons, sucking up social resources, refusing to learn the language, putting an undue strain on our public school system – there by adversely affecting OUR CHILDREN- are an affront to our laws and the American sense of fair play. Everything about their existence in this country goes against the principals it was founded on!

ThisAmerican   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:43 pm

Typical hypocrisy in CO. Those who were “shocked” had NO problem with teachers going to a HS in Boulder and telling kids to have sex, preferably on Ecstasy or at the very least pot, with everyone (male, female WHOEVER)possible. Bruce is right on!!! I’m happy to hear he is a Dem as well. SOME of them get it!!! This video doesn’t show the whole interchange, either. The woman was a complete biotch even before he made his VERY accurate statement. Force all illegals in construction and other industries to go pick the crops, DON’T bring in more, for God’s sake.

Lee   April 22nd, 2008 - 4:57 pm

HELLO!!! They are iliterate! Educated Mexicans aren’t sneaking into our country for the low wages most of them earn because they’re ILLEGAL!
When are people going to wake up? WE CAN’T AFFORD THEM and shouldn’t be forced to pay for all the services they avail themselves of!
Schools are overcrowded – lessons are being dumbed down – emergency rooms are closing – social services are being overrun – if this keeps up we’ll be a Third World country!

I read and re-read his comments. Where is he wrong. They are illiterate peasants. One other adjective he missed is “criminals”. They are here illegally. And, most are committing more felonies such as using someone elses SSN. Not paying taxes. Driving without a license or insurance.
These people are criminals. Call them what they are.

Old Douggy Douche bag is a real ‘winner’ for the Republican party! But he has to play it far more cool or he will never make it past 6 months before he is kicked out of office. How are we going to chew him up proper if he never gets anywhere to begin with. He is the “perfect’ republican ‘example’!! He should be in a zoo!

Of course, we all hate those born 1100 miles South of Texas border like McMexican McCain!

Looks like dirty politics is here!! YES!!!!!!

David   April 22nd, 2008 - 8:17 pm

I am greatful that I do not live in Colorado anymore. I am an American citizen, born and raised. I got legally married to a Mexican citizen, in Mexico, and have suffered for over three years without my daughter and my wife, All this because I am going about everything Legally, and comments like the state Rep.’s make me wonder if this country is worth living in. Honestly the U.S.A. is home to by far the laziest population in the world. The only benefit is that there is money to be made here, the problem is that the majority of americans don’t want to EARN it. With the last couple generations becoming lazier I’m sure the American citizen will eventually be the downfall of this once great country. I hope that this never happens. I hope that the “backbone” of this country does not have to suffer for the ignorance of the upper class. I think that they are afraid that the immigrants entering this country are willing to work harder than it’s own citizens(not all, but the majority). If immigration is thought to be the problem in this country, maybe it sould have stopped with the Mayflower. The real problem in this country is WELFARE, it’s like the majority of Americans do not know how (or just don’t want to) to take care of themselves.

My wife and daughter are still in Mexico. I am doing everything I can to bring them “home”. My wife is eagerly learning English, she knows how important it is. I will make sure my daughter never forgets where she came from, because it seems Americans already have.

And by the way I am a Republican, and my wife and everyone in her family knows how to read, however I can not speak for everyone in her country, that would just be prejudice.

Hi Thirteenburn,

“It’s apparant that Rover is also illiterate, as Bruce is a member of DEMOCRAT PARTY, as was stated very clearly in an earlier post.”

“apparant” is actually spelled “apparent” you illiterate pile of s***…

They list him as REPUBLICAN!! Gosh!! better write them a letter to get that corrected!!!

Let’s check Colorado’s State Legislature site.

John Stark   April 23rd, 2008 - 12:22 am

The best defense in libel……is the truth.
So lets look at the 2 words in question……From Merriam Webster online, for anyone how wishes to follow along with the rest of the class;

Illiterate;
1: having little or no education; especially: unable to read or write
2 a: showing or marked by a lack of familiarity with language and literature b: violating approved patterns of speaking or writing
3: showing or marked by a lack of acquaintance with the fundamentals of a particular field of knowledge

Peasant;
1: a member of a European class of persons tilling the soil as small landowners or as laborers; also: a member of a similar class elsewhere
2: a usually uneducated person of low social status

In closing; we in this country wish to so pervert the English language, that an educated person can not use common PROPER terms to accurately describe anything that may not suit the personal agenda of the Marxists, who wish to turn America into socialist utopia that they have been duped into believing is the answer to all the worlds ills. I salute Douglas Bruce for his honesty in the face of PC idolatry.

They hate the truth. They kill freedom of speech. They are SOVIETS!! And if OBAMA gets in? The bottom 25% of the AMerican workforce has been sold-out by the rest of us. The factories have been shipped to China, and the manual laborer has been robbed of his living wage by the flood of campesanos. As Perot used to say: “look it up”!

Thirteenburn   April 23rd, 2008 - 2:48 am

Two things here are proven without a modicum of doubt:

That the “outrage” from the Democrat Party of the Colorado State Legislature is nothing more than Politically Correct rhetoric, which is nothing more than a cop out for those who can’t handle the harsh realities of real life, which is the hallmark of the Democrat Party.

Second; that the collective stupidity of the liberal, whiny, knee-jerk, bleeding-heart, ANTI-AMERICAN/ANTI-AMERICA Democrat Party, be it at the Federal level or the State level, is surpassed ONLY by their mind numbing intellectual dishonesty.

I agree 100% with what Bruce said in regards and relation to the crap at hand that the states Democrat Party was trying to shove down the throats of every hard working LEGAL citizen of the State of Colorado.

Life in this country would be so much easier and we as citizens would be so much better off by following this simple little rule:

“Make the world a better and beautiful place by punching a Democrat in the face, repeatedly.”

Thirteenburn   April 23rd, 2008 - 3:05 am

It’s apparant that Rover is also illiterate, as Bruce is a member of DEMOCRAT PARTY, as was stated very clearly in an earlier post.

Or, more likely, being that Rover is ALSO a member of the Democrat Party, he just chooses to ignore that fact. Either way, he proves, yet again, that my previous post about collective stupidity and intellectual dishonesty of the Democrat Party is alive and well in Rover-land.

Oh and one more thing? Rover also proves without a doubt that the Jackass is the PERFECT mascot of the Democrat Party.

In Mexico and throughout “Latin” countries, people of lower economic “classes” ARE, in fact, routinely called or said to be “peasants.” It’s what “they” themselves call themselves, it’s the going term throughout these nations to refer to peasantry, manual laborers, people who are illiterate, uneducated and thereby, characterise the lower economic strata of their societies.

And these ARE the people who ARE being used for “cheap labor” in the U.S. We are not importing or attracting people from, say, South America with Ph.D.s to harvest strawberries and sweep floors.

So the Colorado legislator was being frank and accurate. That he was shuttled off the floor was the despicable act, shows real cowardness in the Colorado legislature, because the guy essentially confronted the truth of the problem and why it’s a problem.

Our nation does not need to encourage or “build” an ever-decreasing ability/educational level among it’s population. Already illiteracy is rampantly high in urban areas and the reason why is due to “cheap labor” influx of illiterate peasants — to use their term for themselves — from third world nations.

These illiterate populations may benefit some in the U.S.A. well financially but they are costing the overall nation a great deal and posing a significantly bad influence for our future. I don’t, either, support a redo of Colorado to refashion it into another California or Region in Mexico. We have to start confronting terms just like this guy in Colorado does.

Challenge these idiot defenders of these worthless interlopers to HOUSE them themselves. Let’s just see how much these anti-American traitors really want these people here when having to sit across from them at the breakfast table.

Thirteenburn for President   April 23rd, 2008 - 3:53 am

The only true representattive of the Conservative mind here is Thirteenburn. He is brilliant and his writing style and level of literacy is surpassed only by one or two people who have ever lived, if that many. His grasp of politics, philosophy, rhetoric, critical thinking is equaled only by his encyclopedic knowledge and flawless ability to drill down to the root of the matter and come up with unassailable and startlingly original facts.

The rest of you can never hope to measure up. It is okay to every once in a while tap out your little clichés as best you can remember and spell them, even though we’ve all heard them a thousand times, but, really, you should be spending your time hanging on Thirteenburn’s every word rather than playing with your keyboards. It is your only hope. And he ours.

David Green   April 23rd, 2008 - 3:57 am

I am an American citizen, born and raised. I got legally married to a Mexican citizen, in Mexico, and have suffered for over three years without my daughter and my wife, All this because I am going about everything Legally, and comments like the state Rep.’s make me wonder if this country is worth living in. Honestly the U.S.A. is home to by far the laziest population in the world. The only benefit is that there is money to be made here, the problem is that the majority of americans don’t want to EARN it. With the last couple generations becoming lazier, I’m sure the “American citizen” will eventually be the downfall of this once great country.

Ordinary White Guy   April 23rd, 2008 - 3:58 am

The reason they are coming here is because they are a cheap source of labor for capitalists, including Big Agriculture. If there were no jobs, they wouldn’t come. The reason Mr. Bush and his cronies don’t put a stop to it is because the big money people are making billions off the illegal immigrants.

It’s pretty normal to hate people who don’t share the same values and culture you do. But don’t stop at illegal immigrants. Do you think the multi-billionaires who are in favor of illegal immigration share the same culture and values you do?

No, there is not one poster here who makes in a year what one of these fat cats does in a day or even an hour. These guys don’t even think of you as people. They think of you as dollar signs they can suck money from while evading taxes themselves. They get you all riled up about “illegal immigration,” “death taxes,” “tax and spend,’ “terrorism,” and whether Hillary is shrill or Obama is elitist or John McCain is a true conservative just to take the spotlight off them while they are laughing at you all the way to the bank.

Nice job.

Since the majority of the goofs in government will not listen to these words, I guess that the people have no choice but to shoot these invaders.

Hi Thirteenburn,

“It’s apparant that Rover is also illiterate, as Bruce is a member of DEMOCRAT PARTY, as was stated very clearly in an earlier post.”

As is typical of repulicons, you believe what you want too…

“apparant” is actually spelled “apparent” you illiterate pile of s***…

Let’s check the wick!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Bruce

They list him as REPUBLICAN!! Gosh!! better write them a letter to get that corrected!!!

Let’s check Colorado’s State Legislature site.

http://www.leg.state.co.us/Clics/CLICS2008A/csl.nsf/DirectoryHou?openframeset

OH MY GOD!!! They list him as an “R”!!! Probably for ‘R’etard… But “also” ‘R’epbulican!!

Let’s check with the man!

http://www.douglasbruce.com/

“I am a pro-life, traditional family values, social and fiscal conservative – a Ronald Reagan Republican.”

So Thirteenburn, guess where you can blow yourself out of :D

Gosh… I am starting to be like SoCal Patriot :D

pandaapple   April 23rd, 2008 - 9:08 am

David Green kudos to you, cause you say what you think in a respectful manner, and that’s more than I can say for the rest of the writers here, all I can say my dear immigrants that have done so much for this nation and people seem to keep forgetting, “sticks and stones” words are just words, and is just plain wrong to say all immigrants are illiterate peasants, that just let us see how ignorant all this people really are, but since I don’t want to sound like them, I’ll say half of you are ignorants, wouldn’t want to sound like you people …ewww …not me….gross

Steve   April 23rd, 2008 - 6:22 pm

Keep it up Colorado, and maybe soon you to can be a 3rd world country like Los Angeles.
-Gang bangers
-Theft
-Over crowded ER’s and
run down high schools with a 70% failure rate.
Bottom line Rep Bruce is right whether you like his language or not.

David Green   April 23rd, 2008 - 7:52 pm

DJH- I understand that my use of the word “Majority,” is too broad. On that note I do stand corrected, however I do not support Illegal immigration of any kind. What upsets me more than illegal immigration, is all the FAKE marriages helping people to enter the country. Which is the real reason my situation is so difficult. I always explain to my wife the importance of being Legal in this country. This legality is needed to weed out the criminals. Not having to hide my family is my main reason. My statement of “the laziness of Americans,” I really did mean the past couple generations. I do apologize, as I too am a very hard working American. I guess I did get caught up in a bit of a rant, just a little frustrated and missing my family.

also I hope my daughter grows to be a better person then myself, don’t we all…

Lastly, to the native americans i’m sure we are all “illegal aliens”

Jose   April 24th, 2008 - 1:28 am

The media taking sides: “Colorado State Rep Tossed From Floor for Calling Immigrants ‘Illiterate Peasants’”. Not the case. For “Calling ILLEGAL Immigrants ‘Illiterate Peasants’. This Hispanic man thinks is about time somebody got some (huevos) testicles. I’m sorry for the citizens of Colorado having to put up with a Fascist legislature.

DJH   April 24th, 2008 - 1:56 am

David – Your situation is exactly one of the reason why we cannot and should not give these criminals amnesty. There have been people in line, doing it the right, LEGAL way for over 5 years, but we’re just going to let these people sneak in the country against our laws, steal the jobs of low income Americans, continue to over-populate our schools as well as force us to spend un-Godly sums of money on bi-lingual education, and completely overwhelm our medical system? Americans have answered this question, loud and clear; NO!

The rest of your rant was so pathetic and ignorant that I stopped feeling sorry for you due to your situation. Some Americans are lazy, so are just about any other country or culture you look into. To make such idiotic generalizations when the proof to the contrary is visible in every aspect of this country just shows the folly of your assertions.
Welfare is a problem in this country (check that; the fact that there are no checks and balances to the system that, by the way, ILLEGALS ARE ALSO DIPPING INTO, is the problem) but you couldn’t be anymore foolish for asserting that a majority of Americans are on welfare… the majority of Americans DO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND DO NOT COLLECT WELFARE. What an idiotic assertion to make.

By and large Americans are fair and believe in fair play, which is yet another reason why we have said NO to amnesty. The average person isn’t bothered at all by immigrations (several studies have proven this) but we detest illegal immigration. Unfortunately, people like you are apparently not intelligent enough to discern the difference and instead scream on about racism or bigotry. The intellectual dishonesty of people like you is exactly why this issue hasn’t been put to rest yet.

And the downfall of this great nation wont be because of your foolish assertion that we’re all lazy, it will be because of unchecked and illegal immigration.

On second thought, considering the gross generalizations, outright lies, and complete ignorance you’ve displayed I’d say not a thing in your post is true. If you really do have a daughter hopefully she’ll be more intelligent and able to discern the difference between illegal or criminal activity and a countrys right to defend it’s borders.

There is no human right to live and work in the United States, in case you weren’t sure.

Vivienne   April 24th, 2008 - 6:43 am

il·lit·er·ate –adjective: unable to read and write.

peas·ant –noun: a member of a class of persons who are small farmers or farm laborers of low social rank.

These are plain English words in common use. They are not insults but descriptive of the individuals that were the subject of discussion. Unfortunately, too many in governmen today believe as long as you call a sow’s ear a silk purse the world will believe it.
