The writer of this show has obviously never been to the Philippines and is creating material from his own stereotypes and ignorance.
I’m filipino and I think this is hillarious! Will people quit being so offended? Wahh!! Cry babies. The reason we have freedom of speech is because people are inevitably going to be offended by what someone says. Therefore no one should be condemned or hushed for making a statement. I bet you’re the same cry babies that were in the playground of your elementary schools. Just change the channel. They have the right to speak, but you’re allowing them the right to be listened to via such a horrid show! Philippines needs to get some gonads. So full of corruption and boring TFC Channels.
Typical of Americans to think that their schools are better than those in the Philppines. As a graduate of UP and having taken a course in a community college here, my classmates and even my professors could not spell or even knew English words I used in my classes.
When my college did not want to give my certificate because I did not get 12 units of English, I wrote a letter to the college president and said I was willing to talk in front of the Board of Trustees on behalf of all Asian students who take English classes despite their college degrees but would not ask this from English, Canadian or Australian students. What they didn’t know was I had more college education than any of my professors. They gave my certificate after all.
Besides people who watch this TV soap are the hoi polloi. I myself have never seen it or bothered to even tune to it. The scriptwriter must have had a humiliating experience with a Filipino/a and this is his/her way of getting back. One has to live in the USA to know that they have a lot of ignoramuses who think just because they studied in America they think that the rest of the world are a notch lower than them. Ih well, the Europeans also think Americans are a notch lower.
The Philippine government outcry over this?!! This is truly hilarious. They have a terrible economy, worthless people power movements, horrible corruption, no gonads, and the same actors and actresses on the worthless TFC channel that only promotes division and non-assimilation to the American culture.
Hospitals in america have an abundance of filipino health care professionals who are some of the most qualified and sought after medical workers in the world. from filipino doctors to nurses terri hatcher should be so lucky as to be in the trusted hands of these fine folks.
Desperate housewives definitely owes the Phillipines and filipinos a sincere apology.
With their ratings in the tank, apparently their motto at “Desperate Over-the-Hill Brats” is the standard Hollywierd one, “There is no such thing as bad publicity. There is only publicity.”
this tv show should openly apologize. they are showing their bias and stupidity. We are at par with any educated people in the world. Maybe these people in this program are not really that educated.
The writers of this show are only reflecting what many people think when being attended to by a foreign born doctor. Plus, my wife is from Spain and they are the most racist bastards I’ve ever encountered. Just ask any Filipino or Moroccan if they’d rather live in Europe or America. I think the Filipino government needs to apologize for its lack of market reforms and corruption that is causing the brain-drain out of their country.
This is what the Clintonization of our country has come to….everyone is a victim and needs assurance that they are as important as the next person. I personally think the show sucks but I think I’ll just not WATCH it instead of crying about it!
I am Filipino and I, also, don’t tune in to this show. I find it a waste of time to do so…
Filipinos deserve more than apologies.
Nobody has the right to demoralize anybody, anywhere in the world… so for people who tend to ignore this issue (however obvious that they do care because they keep on posting comments here), it’s not about being a CRYBABY or being OVERLY SENSITIVE, it’s about dignity.
I guess you don’t have dignity that’s why you’re so insensitive about it…
No wonder why my husband don’t want me to watch the show…its not about FREEDOM OF SPEECH..it’s about RESPECT of someone’s dignity. Who knows in the future you guys will be ended up into the care of one of the filipino nurses and you will be put shame to yourself.
There’s no reason to react to this nonsense. Just by watching a single episode of the said show(I haven’t even watched a single episode of it; only on commercials), it reflects the kind of people they portray. I guess that’s just what this freedom of speech and expression can do for them – show their immorality, their infidelity, and whatever they want to do… I guess they’re really desperate to the extent of demoralizing themselves, even pulling other people down with them. Anyway, we’re not the kind of people to stoop down to their level.
Paul Mendez is an outright embarassment to his race. Indeed, every individual has the right to speak his mind – that is, in adherence with our democratic principles. This right, however, are limited to where the rights of others begin. Those who wrote, edited, and executed the script has conspicuously stepped on these rights. I would say if they’d use India, Japan, France, China, Germany, and other countries, the citizens of these nations would be reacting just at par as how we did.
To J Moreno: I do agree that the Philippine government needs reform, but i would beg to disagree that foreign doctors less adept in their jobs as those who were born in the US. In our times, the world is too small for a knowledge not to be shared or taught. We are now in a generation where almost everything is accessible.
Filipinos may be too courteous not to argue on petty things (those who wrote here are not even 0.1% of the population). We may be too kind, too low key… but we are not STUPID. We know when we’re being stepped on. We know when we are being discriminated, and know when we need fight back.
We are a group of talented, dedicated, brilliant, generous, hard-working, and honest individuals who are just trying to help the world the best way we can. We are just like everyone – just like you, amidst the difference in color, accent, culture, geography, and all these mundane, superficial differences.
I, therefore, would like to tell those people who continue to degrade Filipinos – may you be of a different race or a Filipino yourself – to let live. If you have nothing good to say, better not say anything at all…
