I was slated to sing the National Anthem at a county fair and asked the fair committee if I could sing the fourth verse. They told me I couldn’t because it was “too controversial.” Huh? It’s as much a part of our anthem as the first verse!

“Louis” was right, we kids (and I’m 42 now, so I’m talking about several generations of kids at this point) were never even told, much less taught that there were more verses of the Star-spangled banner. Heck, I consider myself lucky that I was ever told that there were more verses of, “America the Beautiful” and that was only because I was in chorus, and our teacher once told us about it as an off-hand trivia remark.
I’m not a U.S. Marine, but I’ve always been proud to be the brother of one (and the brother of a U.S. Navy officer as well, both of whom are serving in Afghanistan at this time), but with this video, I’m a little extra proud. It’s become “out of fashion” for the MSM to report news about people like this gentleman, so much so that you can forget that this kind of spirit and sentiment still exists in America. When it does make the news, they try to tear folks like this down (look what they did to Joe the plumber…)

Also, for those interested, a little history lesson.
In 1814, about a week after the city of Washington had been badly burned, British troops moved up to the primary port at Baltimore Harbor in Maryland. Francis Scott Key visited the British fleet in the Harbor on September 13th to secure the release of Dr. William Beanes who had been captured during the Washington raid. The two were detained on the ship so as not to warn the Americans while the Royal Navy attempted to bombard Fort McHenry. At dawn on the 14th, Key noted that the huge American flag, which now hangs in the Smithsonian’s American History Museum, was still waving and had not been removed in defeat. The sight inspired him to write a poem titled Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was eventually set to music that had originally been written by English composer John Stafford Smith for a song titled “The Anacreontic Song”. The end result was the inspiring song now considered the national anthem of the United States of America. It was accepted as such by public demand for the next century or so, but became even more accepted as the national anthem during the World Series of Baseball in 1917 when it was sung in honor of the brave armed forces fighting in the Great War. The World Series performance moved everyone in attendance, and after that it was repeated for every game. Finally, on March 3, 1931, the American Congress proclaimed it as the national anthem, 116 years after it was first written.

Fantastic. I am reminded of an incident many years ago. I was a young waitress at a popular restaurant in Houston. This place was frequented a lot by people from overseas due to being popular with the oil patch crowd. One day 6 well healed Japanese men were partying and eating at a large round table in the middle of the room. They had been to a baseball game where the Star Spangled Banner was sung of course. They were talking to their waiter Stewart about how everyone stood up. They did not think most people really knew the words though. For fun they bet Stewart $100.00 he did not know the words. Stewart won the bet. He threw out his Texas born chest right there & did an impromptu solo at the top of his lungs unanounced, every word correct. Within seconds the entire restaurant full of people were standing, hands over hearts. The Japenese were not only astonished but highly impressed. Stewart got his $100.00 and then some.

Declaration of Independence.
But, but, but… the liberals are telling us that the Tea Party is really just a bunch of racist people. Surely that black speaker and the black people in the audience must heave been taken there against their will, or maybe they didn’t get the memo. I mean, why would black people want to support freedom?
All sarcasm aside, as a white man I love seeing Americans from all backgrounds with common goals for freedom and love of country. They are all my brothers and sisters in spirit, and I feel far more kinship with them than I do with whites who want us to change America to be like Europe, from whom we evolved. Patriotism in America shows no regard for skin color, all are welcome who love America (and come here legally!).

We used to sing this in public school back in the 40’s, and other patriotic songs, like “America”, “I like it here”, etc. We also sang Christian songs in school. We pledged allegience to the Flag, prayed, and read Bible Scriptures first thing every morning, before we started our lessons. At Christmas we did a play about the birth of Jesus. At Easter we did a play about how Jesus taught us to love one another, died for sins of all mankind, and is the hope of the world. I believe it was around 1963 or ‘64 when they outlawed the Bible in public school, though in some places they read it anyway for a few years. the ACLU put a stop to it. We could sure use some “Jesus love” in our schools today.

I’m sorry for you that you don’t know your own history. Our FOUNDERS said that our rights come from God, not from GOVERNMENT. If your rights come from government, then they can be taken away in a heartbeat.
Also, if you knew anything about our Constitution you would know that it protects you from having religion shoved down your throat. It ALSO protects other peoples’ rights to the Free Exercise and Expression of their religion. Is this REALLY so terrible?
It was people like that that fought and died to give you the rights you take for granted, and which YOU want to take AWAY from me. Yes. To protect yourself from ever hearing about God — horrors — you are willing to take away MY rights.
Please think about this.
Why is it that everyday Americans who are dissatisfied (dissatisfied is an understatement) with the way our country is being governed are shown in an unsavory light. The left remained amazingly silent when SEIU marched in LA or descended on the private residence of Bank of America lawyer Greg Baer in order to press home their views. I cite both of these recent instances to make several points. One, the SEIU was within their collective Constitutional rights of free speech and assembly. Second, in both instances these rights were abused by criminal wrong doing, looting in LA and invasion of private domain which removes the “peaceable” from peaceable assembly. Had I been Mr. Baer and they had terrorized my child, I assure you the bodies would have been stacked up like cord wood. I don’t think I could have remained as tolerant as he did, I hope he is able to sue them into the Stone Age!
But the third point is, Tea Baggers simply do not behave this way. Their assemblies seem to be remarkably without incident. I think our Founding Fathers would be dumbfounded at their restraint. Why is this? Maybe because these Tea Baggers have a fundamental love of this country and as such respect the laws of the land.
John Campbell wrote “Yeah that was spontaneous, and I’m a Nigerian Prince with a swell investment deal for you.” Thank you for your comment as it illustrates my fourth point about our constitutional rights of free speech “what your saying is stupid and I will defend your right to continue saying stupid things”. As to the matter of your Nigerian royal status, it’s not something to aver. Whether or not this gentleman’s singing of the fourth verse was contrived or spontaneous, what difference does it make? He certainly as a strong tenor voice and, I for one, enjoyed his rendition.

WOW! Nearly brought me to tears. I’m all choked up! I immigrated to this country as a kid from Central America and I was blessed to be able to serve this great country in the Army. We must preserve the greatness given to this country BECAUSE of its belief in God which as in turn given us Freedom, Liberty and Justice. Thank you so much – for posting this. It fires me up – we know what needs to be done.

And by the way, Herman Cain, who was the black speaker at this event shown at the beginning of the clip, is an outstanding American success story and not someone who would ever tolerate living on the democratic welfare plantation. He has indicated he may run for president in 2012. He is an American treasure. God Bless all of them and the Tea Party!
