If the “surge” would have been implemented when Senator McCain first suggested it to Rumsfeld years ago there would be hundreds (if not thousands) fewer deaths, both American and Iraqi.

However, doesn’t it stand to reason that when someone is doing something improperly and a person with superior knowledge of that situation corrects them…..

Say for instance a basketball player is only making 1 out of 10 free throws. His coach tells him to bend his knees, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then basketball player (following the coaches instructions) increases to 8 out of 10 free throws. If the basketball player had listened to the coach at the beginning of the season instead of waiting for the end of the season, wouldn’t his free throw percentages be higher?

While I agree we can never know “what might have been” it seems reasonable to me.

Now, taking it to the furthest extreem; if (then) President William Jefferson Clinton had taken just one of the THREE OPPERTUNITIES to “pull the trigger” on BinLaden there would have not been an attack on WTC and we wouldn’t be in Iraq now.

However “Slick Willy” was to busy not having sex with that woman…Ms. Lewinsky.

JimBo, thanks for the reply. The basketball analogy you give does make alot of sense. I am glad that you admit that we can never fully know the “might have beens” in war. Anyone that has read any sort of military history knows that war is full of fluid and unpredictable events. Speaking of fluid and unpredictable events; your comments about Pres.
