Hmmmm, if the latin illegal immigrants dont like Obama. I may have to take a second look at him.
My choice would be either Pelosi or Boxer as VP for Obama. I would also like to consider his wife Mechielle as a VP candidate she is very wise and feels the pain of the common citizen.
Obama 55% over McCain 40%
The people have spoken!!!!
I see Rover, 55 to 40 huh? You’re a moron. Dose of reality here. Obama does not need Hillary to secure the latino vote. He will get them by default. Latino’s are inherently Socialist, promise free stuff and they’re yours. He will get the usual 95% of the black vote. The battle is for the undecideds,
the people who lack the intelligence to adhere to one philosophy or another. If McCain exposes the Socialist record of Obama he will win. But if as has been the case in too many recent elections the Republicans run as cowards he will lose. McCain must point out the enemies of America who support Obama. He must point out the fact that Obama has promised to raise taxes cut the military, and open dialogue with terrorist organizations. Throw in the fact that China is readying an invasion of Taiwan. Now is not the time to put a hen pecked, historically ignorant, friend of Hamas in the White House.
Unfortunately, the discussion about race has been centered between blacks and whites. Latinos are ignored, for the most part, unless an election is approaching. Except for the Clintons. They have included Latinos in their administration, supported Latino candidates actively, addressed Latino problems. I don’t know if Obama has any Latinos as advisers, but I do feel he has not shown much empathy to our concerns. This is not to say that Latinos are not patriotic; they, too, have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. They, too, honor the flag and love the country. They (we) are not just about immigration. We, too, would like to be included when it comes to quality schools, health care, and job opportunities. We don’t know to what extent Obama will address these issues, Bill Richardson notwithstanding, but most of us cannot think of one instance when he acted in behalf of us.
selenafan latinos are still the minority in this country. If women are a minority has G.Bush spoken for women? Has Hillary spoken for men? Do they have to in order to get votes from these groups? If so why has this never been a major topic of discussion but is only applied to a black candidate? Perhaps you are not a US citizen and are still beholden to your native countries nationalistic proclivities. No matter how you spin it your hyperbolic rational for not voting for Obama is weak at best.
KWW, I respectfully respond to your comments. I have never said that Latinos wanted a specific issue addressed; my claim was that we wanted to be included and that the Clintons had been inclusive but that I am not aware of Obama being so. Secondly, I never said I would not vote for Obama; I probably will with some hesitation. As to my not being an American citizen, I was born in Dallas, Texas. Perhaps you do not realize that Latinos have been a part of this country long before Plymouth Rock. But that is neither here nor there. Again, the issue is not that Obama is black; you’re the one who brought it up.
As an aside, San Antonio will soon build a Texas Medal of Honor Museum, among which will be included Roy Benavidez, Alfredo Hernandez, Miguel Keith, Jose Lopez, Cleto Rodriguez, to mention just a few of the Latinos to earn the Medal. I am proud to mention that two of my three children served honorably in the Marine Corps. So, please do not think that we Latinos are about immigration only; we have earned the right to sit at the table. My only concern is to what extent will the Obama administration allow us to do so.
Correction: I meant to write Alfredo Gonzalez not Alfredo Hernandez as a Medal of Honor winner; the USS Gonzalez is named in his honor.
Selenafan, your points are taken but with all due respect I never said you were not a citizen. And the my point was merely to underscore the double standards applied to Senator Obama. I am well aware of the contributions that all peoples have made to this country regardless of there European or ethnic origins. However asking a candidate to give minorities special attention is or acknowledgment is the politics of old. We need to address the coming together of this nation as this democratic campaign seasons has highlighted every ugly thing that the US stands for. Why did HRC fire her latina campaign manager when she lost super tuesday? Latinos were thrown token carrots by the Clintons and have refused to see anything other then what serves their interests…forget the fact that they are bad for the country as a whole. Be American first and ethnic second and maybe just maybe we can hope for a brighter future. None of these candidates are perfect but I think Obama represents a leadership that can make some positive inroads.
Good, i am glad that Obama is not pandering to the illegal immigrants. The latinos are just mad because they know Bush’s gravey train for them is over.
I don’t think RWW you are qualified to know to what extent the Clintons have interacted with Latinos unless you are one yourself. And, yes, in your first comment, you did question whether I am a citizen.
Well, I’m as American as can be. I was educated by Irish and German nuns, great women who imparted on my peers and me the importance of citizenship. English is my primary English, although I am also fluent in Spanish. I believe that one should be fluent in more than one English and for that reason I am taking beginning German. I cast my first vote when JFK ran and have voted every year since. I do like to eat tacos in the morning, but I also enjoy Sunday fried chicken and pizza on Friday nights. I watch Hardball and Keith as well as Bones and Boston Legal. But I also like to watch telenovelas. I love Beck beer; I also like Tecate. I love people of other ethnicities, and I respect their culture. Have you ever heard of the Irish Brigade, a unit that fought in the Mexican-American war?
In short, I am an informed American. My question is still, will there be room for me and others like me at the table?

Excuse me, they were all running for US President which is America, not Latino America or any other nationality. Once here and here legally, we are all Americans and no one nationality should be favored over another. To me that is the most prejudicial statements ever made. What the hell is a latino vote???? If you cater to one group and neglect others or promise one group at the expense of another, that is blatant racism. WE ARE ALL AMERICANS, plain and simple. Be what you wish in private.
