President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government “will go bankrupt.”
The president laid out a dire scenario of what will happen if his health care reform effort fails.
If we don’t pass it, here’s the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they’re going to drop your coverage, because they just can’t afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. ”
The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”
“This actually provides us the best chance of starting to bend the cost curve on the government expenditures in Medicare and Medicaid,” Obama said.

Does he have any idea of the economic disaster he and his fellow Democrats are unleashing? Yet, he has the audacity to claim not passing it will cause the federal government to go bankrupt. Economic literacy – not something our brilliant president has. The government really won’t go “bankrupt.” It can just keep borrowing and spending and printing money. Besides, medical care costs are not going up 25-30% every year.
This might just be the stupidest thing Barack Obama has said yet.
One might wonder how spending at least $1.5 trillion over the next ten years is going to help keep the government solvent.
It might not be stupidity; just plain old fear mongering and lying. It shows how absolutely desperate the president is to get his health care reform bill passed.
I’ve tried to resist the conspiracy theories but how can one deny that this person will say ANYTHING to pass his radical agenda? Here are the Facts on the Senate Democrats’ Health Care Reform Bill
Spending:
The bill does not increase spending by $848 billion over the first 10 years (like Sen. Reid and others have said) – it increases spending by $1.2 trillion between today and 2019.
Once fully implemented, the true cost of the bill is $2.5 trillion over 10 years (2014-2023).
The bill is front-loaded with tax hikes and spending cuts in the first few years with most of the new spending starting after 2014, effectively “hiding” the true huge growth in government.
Tax Hikes:
Taxes will go up $494 billion – nearly half a trillion dollars.
Medicare Cuts
Medicare will be cut $465 billion- another half a trillion dollars.
Higher Premiums
CBO says: the bill includes a public plan paying negotiated rates, which “would attract a broad network of providers but would typically have premiums that were somewhat higher than the average premiums for the private plans in the exchanges.”
Coverage: By 2019, it still leaves 24 million people uninsured.
Federal Health Care Cost Curve Goes Up ^
Congressional Budget Office: “Under the legislation, federal outlays for health care would increase during the 2010-2019 period, as would the federal budgetary commitment to health care.”
Over 2010-2019, the federal budgetary commitment to health care would increase by about $160 billion. CBO estimates there would be no significant change from the current federal budgetary commitment to health care during the decade following 2019 as a result of this bill.
Gimmicks:
CBO scored the bill as reducing the deficit by $130 billion over FY 2010-2019. However, the bill includes a number of budget gimmicks that hide the true cost of the bill: The bill includes only a one-year “doc fix” in 2010, and so assumes doctors will face a 23% cut in Medicare reimbursements in 2011 which would carry into subsequent years. A complete doc fix would cost $210 billion in the first ten years alone. Additionally, the net effect of the CLASS Act would “reduce” the deficit by $72 billion over the budget window, but that won’t continue; it later turns to deficits. Without these two gimmicks, the bill would be $152 billion in the red.
Another gimmick is that the start date for the subsidies for individuals to purchase insurance through the exchanges were all moved from July 1, 2013 (the date in the Finance Committee bill), to January 1, 2014, pushing back a significant amount of the bill’s spending.
If this Congress REALLY wants to insure that they will finally BANKRUPT AMERICA beyond any shadow of a doubt then all they have to do is pass Harry Reid’s health care sham of a bill. My God man! Harry Reid won’t even let any other members of Congress read the stupid thing either! Everything is being done behind closed doors thereby eliminating any chance of “transparency” or “openness” that Barack Hussein Obama promised during his administration if elected. Its quite astonishing how many people ( some posting on this site)don’t really know who is actually running this country and has been since 1954 ~ Its not Obama and yes he is fear mongering by stating that the Gov’t will go broke if his HCP isnt passed ~ Obama is nothing more than a puppet being instructed what to say ( which he doesnt do a very good job of that either) The global elite( known as the Builderberg’s) are taking us to a NWO move by move ( notice how this country has gone down hill in the last decade? think this global economic fall is a fluke??)
