"I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest. Instead, I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great. Hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

No one has to wear an American flag pin, but announcing it to the media is pretentious.

Jeff Davis   October 4th, 2007 - 4:34 pm

He’s just trying to get the immigrant vote.

He just doesn’t know how stupid he is for doing this. Ordinary people see right through this crap.

T. Moore   October 4th, 2007 - 4:38 pm

I think it is the black in him coming out – under the Harvard educated exterior he is still a black man that will not proudly support and wear our flag. Because he holds (white) America in contempt – That is exactly what he is saying to black people – I can only hope people tell him “no thank you” – The question is after that will he say he did not win because he was black?

R. Fortin   October 4th, 2007 - 4:43 pm

Barak Obama is a coward who;s been endorsed by Fidel Castro and Osama Bin Laden what else can you expect from sniveling weenie.

Linda   October 4th, 2007 - 5:33 pm

PLEASE .. pandering once again. Unfortunately, he’s forgetting about the majority of Americans who are proud to wear the American Flag AND are proud of our country and what our flag represents. Unfortunately, he’s now proven he has no allegiance to our flag, or our country. He is just a pandering politician who is again pandering to the far left, Move-ON, and is only after the POWER of the Presidency.

I hope ALL Americans see through this; and tell him how they feel about him ANNOUNCING TO THE WORLD that he “doesn’t like what the American flag (i.e. pin) has come to represent”.

Wake up Obama, the flag has always represented what TRUE Americans feel … we Love & respect our flag, the men and women who fight to protect it; and the freedom it represents. We … do not like what you now represent OR where you would take our country.

Yes, one can be patriotic and not wear a flag pin. However, to dishonor it, and the Americans who do wear it is NOT patriotic.

By saying you “don’t like what it has now become to represent” is UNBELIEVABLE. We thought you were different.

Our eyes are now wide open about your campaign, and what we could look forward to if you or any of the “power hungry” politicians running ever became the President of our United States. We will work hard to take the country we love back; but we will not work for your campaign any longer!!

Kmikl   October 4th, 2007 - 8:40 pm

Interesting.

Undoubtedly he’s been asked about this, and due to the truncated discussion, I don’t think this is because he’s looking for attention: He’s doing it because his patriotism is more than just a small lapel pin.

Call it what you want, but if you’re going to call him something disparaging because he’s not wearing a simple lapel pin, and not bothering to think why he’s doing it… you really need to spend some time thinking about why you choose to think that such a small thing is so big. Wearing the flag is a choice, wearing it at the same time as you spitting on the values it symbolizes, is quite another.

“When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” –Sinclair Lewis

Pat   October 4th, 2007 - 9:17 pm

I notice he wears a wedding ring. Does he not express love in other ways? Doing one does not exclude the other so why can’t he do both?

Regarding this issue, I think he is “carrying water” for someone, or something else, and the need to make a public announcement about it just does not ring true.

Mel   October 4th, 2007 - 9:22 pm

Well he just lost the Presidency.

Vince   October 4th, 2007 - 9:27 pm

“I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest, instead I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great. Hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.”

Will make this country great?!?!

F you. This country *IS* great.. no thanks to people like you , lightweight.

Army Airborne Class of Aug. 14, 1969   October 5th, 2007 - 1:48 am

Won’t be long and Obama will start wearing the
Cresent Moon of Islam pin on his lapel,
and Be PROUD of it!

meanspirited&h8filled   October 5th, 2007 - 5:56 am

Just another far-left democrat who hates what this nation has represented and would like America to lose the war. You will note how similar the dems and the terrorist’s views are. Maybe it is finally going to seep out what the dems really believe; they have had to lie in the past so as to not frighten Americans to death.

Dave   October 5th, 2007 - 6:04 am

Anything for attention

Jeff   October 5th, 2007 - 7:12 am

I can’t believe that people would argue this. The American flag as a symbol of patriotism? NO! it is a Symbol of freedom. The one thing he will take away.
Consider this an act of idiocracy.
I would vote for Gordon Brown before I vote for this clown.(no offense to Mr.Brown.)

wes   October 5th, 2007 - 8:20 am

well well look who is showing his true colors that didnt take long for him to show us he is a muslim at heart what a piece of s%*t take your progresive thinking and sell it someware ells.

seejay   October 5th, 2007 - 9:36 am

If anyone criticizes an African-American they’re RACIST!

Tracy   October 5th, 2007 - 3:46 pm

Since when is the flag about Iraq?

His wife is right – he stinks.

Myke Britt   October 5th, 2007 - 10:13 pm

Perhaps he is afraid he will offend the Muslim voters if he wears the flag pin.
He is a prime example of the media making a silk purse out of a sows ear.
There is no substance to this person.. There are thousands of people who would make a far better senator than him to say nothing of the PRESIDENT OF THE USA?
Hillary scares me but this guy terrifies me. Too bad the republicans don’t have a more credible candidate, they just might lose the White House and that will be a tragedy for America.

Shark   October 6th, 2007 - 7:07 am

He has not worn the pin in years…

He noticed that so many republican criminals were just “using” the pin.

Yawn…

Ladies & Gentleman,
Let’s recap what we have learned about the junior senator from Illinois:
*Last Name: Osama, I mean Obama
*Middle Name: Hussein as in Saddam Hussein
*Only one American parent, his mother
*Father: Muslim Kenyan
*Stepfather: Muslim Indonesian
*Obama lived in Indonesia from age 6 to age 10
*He attended a predominately Muslim school for 2 years.
*Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world.
*Though certainly not all, a very large number of Muslims want to destroy Western Civilization.
*Obama’s admitted Christian spiritual mentor, a black minister, is a racist. Read some of his sermons online. See Seejay blacks can be racist too.
*While in the Illinois Senate he voted present – neither for nor against – proposed legislation 130 times. You can’t “CHANGE” much if you do not take a stand.
*Won Illinois Senate seat because two strong candidates backed out of the election for moral issues. How convenient!
*Had all of two years in the U.S. Senate before he felt he was qualified to be President of the USA
*Wife has not previously been proud of America though she sure has enjoyed the fruits of being an American like an Ivy League education, employment at prestigious law firms, and a lucrative position on a large company’s board of directors.
*He refuses to wear a flag pin on his lapel as a political statement and often does not honor the flag in the traditional manner during the National Anthem.
*Two of his un-official campaign offices in Houston sport a Cuban flag with Che Guevara’s image. By the way, Che was no folk hero. He was a mass murderer who got what he desired in Boliva. This shows the type of supporters he has.
*And above a he is All style, No substance
Come on America!! We cannot elect this guy!!
I am a Republican but I am going to vote in the Texas Democratic primary for Senator Clinton. I despise her. But better the devil you know than the one you don’t. Many other intelligent people in Texas and Ohio that I have talked to feel as strongly as I.
Vote Clinton then McCain!!
