Ohio Girl Suffocates While Playing in Snow Bank

WKYC: Ashland snow plows formed snow piles from the massive snow that fell on the city over the weekend. Too tempting to resist, eight-year-old Emily started playing in them Sunday afternoon. "We're not sure if she just got stuck or suffocated while she was still digging," Lisa said.

Sad. Doesn’t sound like anything could have been done. You can’t keep an eye on them all the time.

Why is it that in America we are not allowed to say how horrible it is to lose such a beautiful child…She could’ve been a president or a doctor…But we catch ourselves with the unfortunate truth of the matter that the hunt for who is to blame will take precedence…The parents will say the city is responsible in some inane way, those of us tax payers are forced to balk at the child’s supervision or lack thereof.

Pitty our country has become this litigious hole that keeps all of us from feeling all the things humans need to feel…I will feel the loss of your daughter tonight.
Know that, and that blaming the snowplow driver, or the city that contracts them will only isolate you
from the people in your community who you need most.

Instead of everyone coming together over this tragic accident. The city will vote next week to ban snow piles or something.

I have an 8 year old daughter and this story breaks my heart. I see my daughter’s face in hers and I just can’t imagine how I would survive losing her. It makes me want to never let her leave my sight, ever.

I’m sorry but if you were watching her this would not have happened. I’ll be damned if I let my kid play in a pile of anything by themselves.

I’m so sorry to hear of the horrible accident. Children die. Always a sad thing… But I honestly believe the Lord has a reason for everything.. Sometimes we come to understand His reasoning… usually we don’t but we have to have faith that His will was done…. To her parents – I am terribly sorry for your personal loss

This was a complete freak accident. No one is to blame.

I saw this story on a local news station in Cincinnati (where I live) and it broke my heart. This is a horrible, tragic freak accident. You cannot watch your kids 24/7, but this makes me want to give it a very hard try. Her family has my most heartfelt condolences.

This is my home town and I have wept at the loss of this beautiful little girl. How many people passed as this child played alone… how many passed as she was trapped…? The responsiblity we have as parents and a community is lacking in todays society. We should care for eachother and look over one another not turning away for fear of involvement. I morn for Emily, her family, and for all of us who cast a blind eye and what it costs us in the end.
