I disagree with those who think posting this video is irresponsible. I believe NOT showing it would be irresponsible. The video doesn’t give the names of the binary components or where to purchase them so we don’t have to worry about junior blowing himself up this afternoon. The facts are that every serious terrorist in the world already has this information. The public needs to be educated about how our enemies operate and to what lengths they’ll go to try and destroy us. This video should be enlightening to those who have complained about security at airports as it pertains to liquids, etc. being allowed in baggage. Many think it’s silly or they’re being unnecessarily hassled, but a video like this is a public service, as it illustrates just how vulnerable we are and how one dedicated zealot can kill hundreds and strike fear into millions of people. Every American has to understand that we are in a war and that war is global and that the U.S. is a prime target. We all have a responsibilty to be vigilent and proactive in protecting our country, our loved ones and ourselves. Education and knowledge of our enemies and their methods is the first step toward defeating this evil.
As has been stated in these responses, those who don’t know how to make these bombs will probably never have the desire to make them. Terrorists know this and use many more sophisticated tools. And while vigilance is necessary we must also recognize that rogue countries ( Saudi Arabia ) support and encourage these acts. Our primary duty is to protect our citizens and if that means a military presence in Suadi then so be it.

annie, I agree with you. I was disappointed to see this on a Breitbart site. It is possible to let people know this stuff is out there without showing the whole video. It is a matter of principal. It is like having access to a video showing the gorey details of a murder, rape, or any other violent act taking place, and then posting it to let people know that this horror exist out there. It accomplishes nothing. We know! We have just had another attempted terriost attack on our country. If the plane had blown up would Breitbart have posted this? It looks bogus to me. Watch it in slow motion and observe the blast pattern. It looks as if something was inserted inside the watermelon that was detonated.
When this first came out, I shared it with a friend that was an 18C – if you don’t know what that is, it doesn’t matter what you think/say.
This video is a crock, this product does not exist to this capacity.

I saw this video years ago right after 9-11.. it is old news..
first, I consider this a public service. the more people know about methods the better. This stuff is simple to figure out on your own and the video doesn’t even tell you what the ingredients are.
Secondly, explosives with these properties do exist minus one thing. None of them can do this kind of damage per unit. This is exaggerated for impact in order to scare you. It should scare you, but it’s not all that it seems as shown here. This is simply a conceptual idea, and I’m giving the creator of the video benefit of doubt. I don’t think even HMX based stuff can deliver this kind of energy.

And if you eliminated all that, went back to living in tribes in the forest, there would be lions and tigers and bears to deal with, because you threw away all the scary stuff — some of which is to deal with lions and tigers and bears.
You aren’t safe. You can’t be made safe. You can be reasonably secure if you know what’s going on and take precautions, but trusting other people to make you safe is the most dangerous thing of all. When you need help in the next ten seconds, the police are minutes away — and the police have lots of scary stuff, and are just as dangerous as anybody else in the right circumstances.

Not to state the obvious, but there is less security in more populated places than an airplane. If a terrorist can get on a plane to come to this country, he can obviously get off that plane, buy a book of matches and burn down half of California, or load up a van with cans of gasoline and blow it up in crowded area. Moreover, he can pretty much just walk over our border with some cash, steal a van, gas, etc. Seems to me that we need to protect our borders more, and screen Muslims visiting our country better. A physical chemist can probably provide the necessary calculations to it up, but just based on what I’ve seen from other explosives do I call this absolute bullshit.
PETN has a vDet (velocity of detonation, or how quick the detonation goes through the explosive) of 8400 m/s. RDX is considered “one of the most powerful and brisant of the military high explosives.” (wiki) and has a vDet of 8750 m/s. In the video they claim that this explosive has a vDet of between 4300 and 6550 m/s, so not as powerful as PETN.

This is 10 GRAMS of PETN, in contrast to the ±50mg (at absolute most) they used on the other video… Ok, the 10g PETN does some damage, but I find it very difficult to believe that a 200x smaller amount of high explosive would instantly ‘vaporize’ a water melon. Especially because the explosive used in this video is less powerful than petn.
