It looks like they still have a long way to go, it’s amazing how little things have advanced since the mid 60’s. Didn’t the military have similar devices 40 some years ago? This looks very unstable and i hardly think anyone but an experienced aviator will be able to pilot this on a day to day basis from home to work. Gravity has really proven to be a tough one to beat.

So what’s the name of the company? I gather the crane was there as a last-ditch safety line, not lifting the “saucer”?

I really believe aerial personal transportation is the wave of the futurte. Cars have had their day.

The M200G volantor: yours for under £45,000. what the heck is a L45,000. the company is moeller skycar. been around for at least twenty years. this is old news. so is video. this breitbart just wants to see how many people will see this video from the 80’s.

Does the 90,000 include the cost of the crane and the power cable?

Get it down to 20k, seat four, fly 500 miles without refueling, tied into a radio grid for safe navigation and avoiding collisions, and they’ll have something. Til then. . ..

Stability has been solved for a while. That is all handled by computer.

Not exactly a forrunner of a “flying saucer” just another atmospher based vehicle like a Hellicoptor or V-Stall Aircraft. This is old technology, don’k know what the fuss is about…sc

What are the songs being used in this clip? Specifically the second song?

RON   June 17th, 2008 - 1:44 pm

I remember when their first ad came out in I believe Popular Science acting like it was ready for delivery back in the 60’s, engines were small made in Israel, were supposed to be computer controlled, however computers back then were in infancy—problem is here flight is dependent on each engine precisely having its rpm controlled for the correct flight—if something goes wrong with just one engine your saucer becomes a “flying bath tub” and down you go—they better have one of the aircraft parashutes installed! If one could be made that was safe and reliable, could be a huge aircraft bonanza, especially for industry—but as one fellow said, needs two seats and a trunk!

This is not even news-worthy. Devices that are identical in principle to this have been around for years. This is no different from a helicopter with gimbaling rotors.

Jim DeGriz   June 17th, 2008 - 2:39 pm

The music is “Celestial Soda Pop” by Ray Lynch.

Moller has moved on to a new version of the skycar, the M400 seats 4 and can be gotten for $500,000 if you get on the bottom of the waiting list.

Sigmond   June 17th, 2008 - 2:49 pm

You go first.

Sigmond   June 17th, 2008 - 2:52 pm

It’s only 90,000 for the saucer and 640,000 for the crane.

glenny   June 17th, 2008 - 4:55 pm

oh man, everybody stole my crane-joke thunder.

ok, how bout this:

Is the company named California Crane Co. ?

Noelio   June 17th, 2008 - 6:04 pm

Oh no! They found the 8 upside down lawn mower secret that the Nazis tested back in the 40s!!!

Love the tune… A rip off this time in the flavor of Blondie’s “Call me”. Love the crane as well.

These things are NOT stable and never will be. They need to use the element 115 tripole method for antigravity… Then we’ll probably get out of this lethargic enthusiasm. *YAWN!*

Go China go!

Great now we can all have a car that spends $1000 in fuel standing still. Wheels and airfoils are pretty good methods for resisting gravity (supporting weight). Why do we think it is so cool to blow all that scarce fuel staying in one place. I hope China goes into full production, after all we have to seem smarter than these guys at least once this decade.

sean   June 18th, 2008 - 4:53 am

Yeah, b ut can it wrap itself up into a briefcase? Yeah , I didn’t think so! Jetson like I think not!

chisum   June 18th, 2008 - 6:13 am

Paint it green and Algore will buy one.

joshT   June 18th, 2008 - 8:03 am

This is an extremely old video from the 80’s. And these are americans and brits. Yes the whole ducted air fan idea is very old…. china has a long way to go…

SwamiTommy   June 18th, 2008 - 10:06 am

This is just another example of the ‘fake’ news that is diluting the bandwith – it is designed to look like real news but is totally fake. It is obvious that the crane is the only thing providing ‘lift’ to the fake saucer; clever camera angles and photoshopping at work (you can see pixellation above the top center where the line was cropped out). Yawn….

chkm8k2   June 18th, 2008 - 10:15 am

Obviously, a hoax. Sort of like the supposed lunar landing some years ago.

SwamiTommy   June 18th, 2008 - 10:18 am

Edit: I just now saw the Entire video and need to retract only somewhat partly: the is a LITTLE lift given by the saucer – but I don’t believe it comes into play unless it is just a few feet off the ground – this is like the old Canadian ‘Avro Car’ – never really was able to be more than a hover craft at a few feet off the ground.

Anddi   June 19th, 2008 - 11:18 pm

The crane is lifting it by a rope..so why do they say it is flying itself when it isnt? And that cost 90,000? Very strange
