Nice move, Pope Benedict XVI,
Rice is trying to hammer out peace between Israel and the Palestinians, and he snubs her. I would say this is an overcorrection from the Church’s past of political mis-deeds. The ‘going on vacation’ move is one of cowardice.
He could have met with her and made any comment he wanted. Instead he sticks his head in the sand.
I’m guessing that the Pope 10 years from now will be begging for an audience with the American President; this will be after the Islamatisation of Europe is further along.
I’ve been Catholic my whole life– 50 years– and this pope is an ass. John Paul, if anything, out of the kindness of his heart and to help peace in the middle east in any way he could would have given Rice a short audience. This clown has an ego as big as the great outdoors.
Excuse me folks, would you come off a vacation to have someone visit you? I think not. That is the Pope’s private time, which he has a right to. Condoleeza Rice was not being considerate by asking for an audience with him on his private time. He is not everyone’s convenience to be used as such. It would be nice if he would receive more respect from those especially who call themselves Catholics but act far from what a Catholic should act like.
The popes always take a vacation in August. As far as “givemeabreak” goes, he is no Catholic. And “givemeabreak” is inconsiderate, and therefore a jackass. If I were taking a vacation, I wouldn’t meet with anyone either except my mother.

The Pope has the right to to refuse audience with whosoever he pleases. Rice no doubt was only using the visit as a politicalploy. Why should the Pope play along in the Bush administration’s political games? After all the church is supposed to be a symbol of peace,and all Bush does is promote conflict!
