I was under the impression the expression “COLD-COCKED” as used in the Santa story, should be “COAL-COCKED” as taken from old steam ships when sailors in a fight aboard ship would grab a coal cock as a weapon against their opponet. The coal cock was a devise which plugged a hole in the boiler.
