I think he is referring to the Voting Right Act of 1965. It was renewed for 25 years in 2006 by the man who does not like black people according to Kanye West, George Bush. Most of the changes in election law that it provided were permanent but some have to be renewed from time to time. Basically, it the provisions of that law that call for multilingual ballots and translators. These are not provided by the federal government and can be quite a financial burden on some districts. I don’t think Nas has anything to worry about though, the extension passed by like 300 votes in 2006.

The word “nigger” has been around for a long time.
While it has been suggested that the word should be removed from our vocabulary, mainly by the black population, I find it to be particularly useful. Funny how the meaning of the word has changed over the years —— kind of like the word “gay” which meant a state of happines (at least when I was a kid)and not “queer”. Blacks call me “cracker”, “whitey” and a few other terms but it hasn’t hurt my feelings one bit. People need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and just move on in life. By the same token, there is no such thing as “African-American”. Your either one or the other. If you don’t want to be an American, then please leave, you won’t be missed.

YES! YES! So glad to see a young black man stand up and try to educate society at large. I mean, come on people, we should all be listening to the meaningful message that Nas is trying to educate us on, right? So what if he was a drop-out in the 9th grade? I mean, I’m certain he has read every word and understands the fine details of the Voting Rights Act.

To me, this exemplifies a huge problem within the black community – to many people take their cues from morons like Nas and Kanye West, all the while bashing folks that actually care. Take Bill Cosby. His message is simple – take responsibility and get an education – yet he is denounced at every opportunity by these gang banging little thugs because, oh my God, they might actually have to use the muscle between their ears!

As far as taking the rights of blacks to vote, the only people I know that happened to is the troops that are fighting for us over seas, when the Democrats tried not to count their absentee votes in Florida.

I watched this clip and thought that this guy (and the reporter) are actually quite ignorant. The guy was spouting incredibly ignorant and very inaccurate information. Black will not be allowed to vote in 23 years?? Well, if he had any common sense in his head, he would have researched that little tid bit of MIS-information. It’s an urban legend. The 15th Amendment gives ALL citizens the right to vote. In 1965, President Johnson and Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, which was just an enforcement of the 15th Amendment. The Voting Rights Act is no longer needed. How can the rapper worry about his right to vote being taken away when Obama (obviously a BLACK man) is running for president? And has a really good chance of winning it! Seriously. His comment is just stupid and paranoid.

And the reporter? Why not call this guy on his ignorant comment? Instead, she just bobbed her head and smiled like a fool. The media is useless. Empty heads smiling.

Someone needs to give this rapper a library card or internet access so he can check his facts before he makes a fool of himself on national tv.

This was a pretty lame article. Kelis for starters is an important- recording artist in her own right . Im not sure that their little publicity stunt didn’t just make them look stupid as hell either. There is one thing no one is talking about. The fact that people in a country which is supposed to be based on Christian beliefs, we continue to bash each other on any number of issues. The word “nigger” means different things to different people, I agree, but at any rate, it is offensive. It is offensive to the blacks when it is spoken by whites, AND it is offensive to whites that it can be spoken by blacks about themselves as some kind of “badge” all the while getting the media all hyped up about whites who say the word. The whole thing is ludicrous and un-Christian!
