I didn’t get that. Where are you guys? One more time please.
Definitely obama’s voting block! People without brains.
This sucks.
badump bump!
Did someone mention being in a tornado? Thought I heard something…
Kids, don’t do this at home.
The Tornado Prediction Center issued a watch for tornadoes 7 hours before NOAA.
Visit at owsweather.com/outtw.html
Were they in a tornado? It wasn’t fully explained.
These meat heads are very, very lucky their car wasn’t tossed like a child’s toy and crushed.
Hmmm, a little more in depth reproting would have been interesting. Ears popping & “we’re in a tornado” wasn’t good enough.
I don’t get it. What just happened?
This was not very bright. Had this turned out to be something other than a mild F1, these guys wouldn’t have thought this was so cool. Chasing these storms has become increasing popular. How long before we have video of two of these guys in a mini-van (the obvious vehicle of choice for the amateur storm chaser) flying away over some midwestern cornfield?
…and not ONE swear word! Amazing!
I don’t buy it. 100 mph wind would have most certainly tossed their vehicle around. It’s enough to uproot trees, rip off roofs, but not tumble this car or truck? No way!! And like someone else said, no swearing? they were way to calm. If they were really in a tornado, they would have been freaking out, not repeating that they were in a tornado so people would think they were in a tornado.
That was baloney. They were in a storm, no doubt, but that was not 100 mile an hour winds. That car would have been almost uncontrollable in 100 MPH winds.
“You are NOT in a Tornado”, repeat after me.
“We’re in a tornado”. Dude sounded just like Rain Wilson from The Office….Dwight Shrut, “we’re in a tornado”…yep it fits.
It was a carwash. Sounded like the guys from the David Blaine spoof – for sure…
More global warming tornadoes. One could be coming to a neighborhood near you. Be part of the solution not the cause!!!!
F for predictability
F for lack of sources to support your position
F for lack of creativity
Suggestion for improvement: stop trolling the streets of San Fran and register for a remedial english literature class.
It’s easy to criticize when you don’t know all of the facts. Put yourself in that situation, and I don’t think you’d be able to come up with ‘intelligent play by play’
I was on the phone with Kory (the one speaking first in the video) when this happened, and all 3 of us were in shock. We were trying to play everything as safe as we could and stay out of the tornadic circulation, and they ended up in it by mistake. These guys have been chasing for 10 years, and we’ve had plenty of successful chases where we stay safe. Either way, a lot of things went wrong from behind the scenes here in Michigan to in the field in Iowa that lead to this unfortunate position.
I also think that Obama comment was way out of line – I frequent this site and the Drudge Report and wouldn’t be caught dead voting for Obama!
By the way, the National Weather Service in Omaha rated this tornado an EF-3. This was a little stronger than a “Mild F-1″. They put their car in neutral and hoped for the best. It’s an absolute miracle they are still alive. We definitely learned a lot of lessons.
Personally I haven’t made up my mind on which candidate to support but I love it whenever someone tries to put down one of the candidates and it backfires on them. As in the comment by if “Definitely obama’s voting block! People without brains.” Followed by the comment of the guy who was chasing this tornado that said he wouldn’t be caught dead voting for Obama. The biggest problem I have with politics today is the fanatics on both sides. Honestly if you would never consider voting for a Republican or a Democrat then you are what is wrong with the country. Pull your head out of you know where and start listening as there are very intelligent, caring and patriotic people on both sides.
Ben, loyalty to your co-workers is nice, but come on. Now you’re saying they were IN an F3?
No. No they weren’t. By definition of an F3 they weren’t Ben. The video speaks/shows for itself, Ben. Lots of wind, but not IN the tornado, or they’d at least have been blown sideways a bit, but they don’t mention that, and we don’t see it. The camera is firmly mounted, and there’s no visible rocking of the vehicle. No sound of anything hitting the vehicle. No cracks in the windshield. F3? Give it up, Man.
Bill Smith,
The NWS (National Weather Service) did classify this tornado an E-F3. Explain me a few things would you Bill? Okay.. First of all, about an 1/8th into this video the road sign on the left side of the road falls over flat.. Had to take one heck of a wind gust to break over a 4×4 wooden post.. 2nd, I am not 100% sure what side of the road it was on, but a house was completely destroyed from this tornado.
I have seen pictures of Kory’s vehicle on the website http://www.severestudios.com and I am sure Kory could post more if he wanted to…
Actually the camera was just on a tripod which was bungee corded or being held by our chaser Kenny Allen. Most likely it was still just attached with bungee cords.
I’ve seen the full video in DVD Quality – They went right through the tornado. Debris goes from left to right, then they get in the middle, and it comes back right to left.
Here is a link to the story – http://www.crh.noaa.gov/crnews/display_story.php?wfo=oax&storyid=15319&source=0
The Tornado was rated EF-3. It’s hard to tell exactly where on that map Highway 183 was, but there was a bunch of structures (Barns, sheds, etc?) completely destroyed right next to where they got hit by this tornado. As you can also see, the Tornado took a huge turn to the right about the time the radar went out. Our best estimate had the tornado going off to the North of where they were, and not hitting them dead on. Obviously it was hard to see anything in the storms.
There are alot of people commenting here, that have no clue as to what the entire story is behind this incredible footage. Take some time people and research the story, before you open your mouth and insert your foot.

Um, please refresh me on this…
Did I hear him say, “We just went through a tornado?”
