Typical Russian horse-hockey puck. If this was just a test, it wouldn’t have been announced….why would the U.S. risk furnishing material for propaganda if the interception doesn’t work. Russia is a paranoid, 2nd rate nation.

So many questions about this story.
No, It wouldn’t make a good test of a missile-defense system. Unless we think that incoming ballistic missiles will a some point in their trajectory, stop in mid-flight and assume a geostationary orbit! Like a keyhole satelite!
No, shooting it down would NOT produce LESS debris! This claim makes no sense at all.
And finally, are they serious when they tell us that it’s the “Toxic Rocket Fuel” that they’re so concerned about? That same rocket-fuel that has to survive a 3000+ degree rentry in order for it to be toxic to anyone?
I don’t trust our government with ANYTHING anymore! Even when they try to put on a show of strength, they end up looking like a bunch of…………Government Workers!

Sue
You’re as big on hateful insults as you are small on knowledge.
Forgive me for saying geostationary instead of geosynchronous!
As for your other “facts;”
Rocket fuel won’t burn because it’s frozen? Um….. Ridicoulous! And since you’re offering fatal advice, here’s mine to you; Freeze a chunk of rocket-fuel, then light it on fire. I’d love to be there to see the look on whats left of your face!
And have you or anyone actually modeled your multiple-pieces re-entry hypothesis? Have you based your superior attitude on ANY data, or, as I’d guess, are you just another internet-bigmouth?

I can’t believe that are probably people on both sides who would like to restart the Cold War. Do some people in this country and Russia never get tired of saber-rattling or war itself?

Of course, satellites fall out of the sky all the time with all kinds of interesting stuff on board. The only difference here is that Bush has a wild hair about shooting something down. I expect it will become one big embarrassing SNAFU. $60,000,000.00 of your tax dollars is nothing compared to how much it cost to put the satellite up there in the first place.
The only worry the Russians have is when this turns into a giant FU they might hurt themselves from laughing so hard.
Let’s just hope they don’t kill themselves playing with the missiles. They are going to wait until the space shuttle lands for the obvious reason.

So! Why are they getting their panties in a wad!
America has been doing this for years.
NO BIG DEAL.

seejay, you’re an effing idiot. You don’t even know what a keyhole “satelite” {sic} is (they’re not geostationary, you moron).

Shooting it down WOULD produce less debris THAT WOULD HIT EARTH, because the impact & explosion would create smaller pieces that would burn on re-entry.

The rocket fuel is currently FROZEN SOLID. You obviously don’t know how COLD it is in space. The ice chunk is so cold that it certainly COULD remain solid through reentry.

Go play on the freeway, you clueless kid.

Wouldn’t be ironic if the U.S gave in and
did not shoot down the satellite and the
“toxic fuel” landed in Beijing or Moscow
and killed thousands of people?
