I can only think of one thing that terrorists and most Americans have in common…we both love our families. Thats why I support the Russian method of dealing with these animals.

gwgn02   August 23rd, 2010 - 10:37 am

This is one of those FUBAR situations for law enforcement. The hostages are at complete mercy of their captors, and the best one can hope for is to save a few of them while exterminating all of the terrorists. So cowardly…so cruel. Pray for the victims.

When I love my family, I do not tie explosives
to their bodies. Neither do I send out
rockets from my neighborhood.
They don't love their families, they
hate their enemies families.

Night Vision + Tear Gas might have worked

smellyfinger   August 23rd, 2010 - 12:32 pm

I blame Obama

Brem1   August 23rd, 2010 - 12:41 pm

They should have passed in some loaded pistols

HarryCan   August 23rd, 2010 - 1:15 pm

Why do buses like this have curtains? Do you really expect to get some shut-eye riding on a Bus????

HarryCan   August 23rd, 2010 - 1:17 pm

What did it take, like three times to finally get that tear gas grenade in the window? These guys obviously don't have a baseball team./

When stuff like this happens, they should round up the family members of the perpetrators, their mothers, fathers, brothers, sister, wives, and children, and kill them.

Then these stinking animals would think twice before putting innocent civilians in the crosshair of their escapades.

Yes, sincerely.

mariodebarrio   August 23rd, 2010 - 1:35 pm

what happened with the plan of going though the front door. i guess that truck wasn't strong enough.

ocjohn   August 23rd, 2010 - 2:03 pm

Sad for the innocent victims and those who tried to help. What a mess.

Dagney77   August 23rd, 2010 - 2:04 pm

I like your enthusiasm, Son, but this individual was insane. Killing the families of people who are hearing disembodied wouldn't be very effective in my opinion. That would only work with rational people.

_Son_of_Liberty   August 23rd, 2010 - 3:05 pm

:-)

Thank you for understanding!

Duuuuh   August 23rd, 2010 - 4:06 pm

So… is it easier to blame yourself if you don't act and people die or do act an people die? That will be a hard thing to live with. Sadly… sometimes this is the only solution. It is so hard to say…. but if they hadn't acted many more would have likely died.

Duuuuh   August 23rd, 2010 - 4:23 pm

Yes…. Maybe… but maybe not. Who is to say that might have cost even more lives? This was a trained police officer who knew what he was doing and how police work when he took the hostages.

People were going to die either way night vision, tear gas or not….. but a bullet did work and, sadly, is the only solution guaranteed to work.

I prefer to leave it to the people who were there and had to make an instant decision. And I hope that there action may have a deterring effect on anyone else that may have a similar thought in the future.

Duuuuh   August 23rd, 2010 - 4:28 pm

What goes through a persons mind that thinks that taking hostages is going to get him his job back as a police officer?

GenMalvar   August 23rd, 2010 - 7:08 pm

Guess I shouldn't complain, the outcome could have been worse and the PNP handled it better than I expected….. mabuhay ang Pilipinas (waving flag kinda enthusiastically)
This is interesting, apparently the hostage taker Mendoza was a highly decorated officer and was sacked over a corruption scandle. http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/na...

This video would be hilarious if the outcome wasn't so tragic. The Philipino assaulters are a joke.

Why were the surrounding lights on?

Why weren't distraction device like flash bangs used?

Where was the dynamic and explosive entry?

Where was the coordination between the entry, overwatch and sniper teams?

I mean these are tactics taught in basic training and at every police academy. Hell this is stuff you learn playing video games.

For all those who say, "Well you got to do something.", no you don't have to always do something. Sometimes it's just better to sit tight and wait it out.

But hey it could have been worse. Had the bad guy been more squared away and switched on, instead of 7 hostages dead, probably all the hostages would be dead. Hell he could have taken down most of the assaulters teams.

Update – 9 dead

uncledan   August 23rd, 2010 - 10:26 pm

Obama's an American-hating Marxist Muslim. What's not to blame?

AlmostDailey   August 24th, 2010 - 12:47 am

Here's the Deal: This is a tragedy that did not need to happen. Don't blame the police on site… they really did the best they knew how. This is clear imagery of a lack of proper training AND equipment. By training I mean, in this HOSTAGE situation, without proper equipment and training, the first thing that should have been done was for the Police Sniper to Kill the culprit early on. Plain and simple. This is a tragedy that did not need to happen, at least not as bad as it ended up. This is a tourist tour bus with people that could have been from any country, even local Filipinos. Fortunately a few of the hostages were released.

clamdigger53   August 24th, 2010 - 5:32 am

i was thinking the same thing,,,,smoke bomb, tier gas

HelloLiars   August 24th, 2010 - 9:50 am

Where are Keanu and Sandra Bullock when you need them.

wallyintouch   August 25th, 2010 - 6:42 pm

I cannot understand why, under these type circumstances, a knock out gas is not released into the compartment that totally disables everyone in the compartment, good & bad guys. Then waltz in & remove everyone to a safe area, shouldn't be too hard to id the bad guy, right? Or is this too simple of a strategy?

wallyintouch   August 25th, 2010 - 6:45 pm

One word for you, yurignorant.

tudas_ka   August 26th, 2010 - 10:41 pm

Night vision nor tear gas would neither work. They should have used stunt grenade! Or just gave the man his best wishes that he'd end up on jail for hostage taking…
