I am a NASCAR fan. Please tell me. Am I white or black or hispanic? What kind of person am I? What do I do for others? What is my income to debt ratio? Please tell me because you act as though you know me.
Let me advise you, you do not know me and you do not know the majority of NASCAR fans out there. I used to think like you until someone dragged me to a NASCAR race 6 years ago. I was amazed at the money, class and decent people who enjoy this sport. I was at the Phoenix race last week and made a concious effort to look for crappy people and bad behavior and I did not see it anywhere. No fighting, no drunks, no naked bimbos flashing people, no fat white men peeing off the side of their RV.
The sport is centered around engineering and strategy. It involves teamwork and communication. It is not racist or hateful. It is the only sport that openly prays and pledges patriotic allegence to our wonderful country before every race. There are plenty of minorities who enjoy this sport and unless you are an expert of everything NASCAR, please keep your big, judgemental and prejudice piehole shut.
By the way, the man who won the pole today (that means qualified first) was a hispanic. And they didn’t even throw tortillas at him or make him clean the bathrooms before the race! According to you, that must be progress.

I did see that crash on TV today. I saw the way that car smashed into the fence, and there were people sitting a few feet away.
Afterwards, I heard the winner say ‘It was a little boring in the middle, but by the end it was exciting..’ or something like that.
Do people watch Nascar FOR the crashes? Like in a blood-sport way? It’s kind of morbid, like slowing down on the highway to see a bad crash.
I do know I hate being on the highway after a NASCAR event gets out.

You put way too much on the line for these guys to ask them to lift 300 yards from the fininsh to keep from wrecking and potentially killing drivers and spectators.

The “boring in the middle” comment by Dale Earnhart Jr. was referring to the drivers not actually racing each other, but simply trying to maintain position and not wreck, (it was a 500 mile race you know). The finish is always the most exciting part of any race.

Ban NASCAR now. Stop wasting gas and helping us maintain our dependence on foreign oil. How much fuel is used on average in a single NASCAR event? This isn’t about demographics, it’s about ignorance–if NASCAR fans/organizers/drivers were true blue Americans they’d realize the damage the sport is doing. Help me understand what is positive about NASCAR, please.
I’m a Tony Stewart fan, second only to Jr. That being said, I wish the same thing happened to Tony back in October when he did the same thing Carl did yesterday. For the person who said “the driver has three peddles so use the brake” does not know ‘Dega. At that point in the race if you even lift you can finish in 5th like Jr did Saturday at that point, or further back. Understand that at 200plus mph and 30 to 43 cars all within three seconds of each other, if you LIFT or use the BRAKES, you will cause a bigger accident that the one that Carl did. To compare NASCAR to your daily drive on the highway, is (to say it bluntly) STUPID! If you look and about half of the accidents during the past 50plus years of NASCAR, they were caused by the person in front of you lifting or braking. My point is you cannot brake at 180mph and expect the person behind you to miss you. This is what a NASCAR driver deals with every weekend.
NASCAR placed the yellow line there for a reason and I remember the accidents that was caused before the yellow line rule. The aggree with David Despain, (Wind Tunnel on SPEED) take the plates off, bulldoze the banking, and I would add, on the last lap, make the yellow line rule, void. After they cross the finish line everyone slows down so the fear of a car flying off of the infield is reduced, and he is slower.
Of course there are few blacks in motorsports, it costs money to race. Even at the local tracks it takes thousands of dollars to get enough experience to be competitive. You can’t just lace up a pair of $100 sneakers and spend endless hours practicing. With that said, there are now many teams with driver development programs that include all races. High profile sports figures like Dennis Green and Randy Moss are just a few that are putting teams on the track.
And just for good measure, a race car is the true equalizer. It is a machine that has no idea who is behind the wheel. It matters not what race creed or even gender.
So, if you care to spend some money and have some huevos, you to can prepare a car, pay your entry fee and go race. Oh yah, and be prepared to die, even in practice. So what is keeping you? Bring it.

Why don’t we ban out of country vacations because they waste jet fuel? Hell, let’s just ban all cars and make people take the freakin bus! There are a lot of things we could do to save fuel. We could ban SUVs and make everybody ride around in pop cans on wheels to save gas. We could ban baseball because of all of the electricity it takes to light up a stadium for a night game.
