With the tragic death toll down there, this is a nice video and I bet serves as a morale boosters for the Aussies.
Whats happening in Australia is horrible. My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones,as well as their homes! I’m also saddened by all the helpless animals who are dying, or hurting, or thirsting! This photo put a smile on my face at a time when I really needed it!!
What a lovely reprieve from all the sad news happening around the world. God bless this compassionate man, as well as this weary little refugee!
This little guy will be the “Smokey the Bear” for Australia. Hopefully he will recover fully and be an inspiration like old Smokey was for us.
Good Job Mate,,, and God Bless All and Sam in Australia.
Does anyone know how to donate to help the animals? I read that they are so overwhelmed with injured animals. They need money. Please post if you know. Thanks very much.
The Environmental Extremist movement, the Green Party of Australia and it’s followers are responsible for the death of these innocent creatures. The “Green Conservationists” thru weak kneed Govt. took over forest care in Australia about 25 years ago. Since then they have stopped controlled burns and even fire prevention. Even the Fire watch towers were taken down as they interfered with the envoironmental appearance. (Why that matters no one knows as they also placed most National Parks as no-go areas to protect them, yes no visitors allowed.) The Australian Bush is regenerated by fire, naturally or by controlled burns, the natural vegetation requires it for germination, and the wildlife need it for new grasses, seeds, etc. Without this the forest with it’s high oil bearing trees is a tinderbox. The native aboriginals knew this and burnt off each year or two. The slow burning fires burned the excess rubbish without affecting the trees or wildlife. The rural people of Australia practiced this until stopped by the “conservationists” and weak Govt.. The conservationists are now responsible for the total destruction of beautiful old growth forests and every bit of wildlife that existed in them, and in the last 25 years hundreds of human victims. These fires burn so hot and fast that nothing escapes them.
What a sweet moment.
Hugs from Texas

Thank you Mr. Fireman for your compassion. What a sweet video for such a tragic event. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of this tragedy.
Much love from Louisiana.
What a compassionate man!!!!! It’s amazing a wild creature like Sam somehow knows he is helping her. To see her putting her paw in his hand is amazing. Those poor animals. Those that let this happen should be prosecuted. That includes those responsible for causing the fire and those in governmental positions whose policies led to these fires. It seems environmentalists do more to harm the earth than save it.
God bless this compassionate gentleman and his fellow heros. We’re praying for you guys here in Texas.
The problem with good liberals is they think with their hearts, rather than their brains. Of course, the problem with bad liberal politicians is they take advantage of good liberal’s ignorance.
Mark,
Thanks for your idiotic insight! And the trouble with conservatives is that they would rather shoot animals from airplanes than help them. They are, after all, only animals. Right?
Lots of prayers going out to our Aussie brothers and sisters from the USA!! God Bless you all!!
Next time a fire breaks out, why don’t you take a group of tree- hugging leftist, know nothing IDIOTS out and make them dig a fire break…
Johnny Dee 2:16..excellent post. too bad the morons won’t read it..
Make a tree happy today, hang a freakin’ environmentalist from its branches
at least they have hearts-
I think you just proved Mark’s point.
Yeah, God “blessed” us with a fire that burned nearly 200 people alive.
Lisa,
You haven’t made a point.
If it turns out people started this fire lets find them, cover them in gravy, and feed them to the animals who are now looking for food…Mike USA
At least one happy ending from this horrible fire story…
Johnny Dee…we have the same problem here in California. The tree huggers won’t allow any brush clearing on public lands so it’s all piling up. Dead dry trees are infested with a bark beetle. They don’t understand proper forest management. Up around Lake Tahoe, the problem is so acute that if goes up in flames, not only will it destroy a lot of forest and a lot of houses but the run off from winter rains will destroy a beautiful fresh clear lake for decades.
In the midst of tradegy comes a beautiful example of compassion, concern and trust. This needs to be the poster for those that put their lives on the line and stand in the face of the fire to save us and our belongings. What a touching gesture from a special human being.
The image was lifted from a short video taken with a mobile phone by fellow CFA firefighter Mark Pardew.
Not long after this they were both called off to save a house from the fires.
The Koala was rescued by wildlife carers not long after this and taken to a shelter.
Sam the koala actually turned out to be a female.
She was given antibiotics, an IV drip, her paws were treated and bandaged and she is on the way to recovery, but this may take six to eight months before she will be released back into the wild.
The follow up story with images of the recovering koala are at this link.

Tony.
This made me cry.
Tony,
Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the article and really liked the accompanying photos, particularly the one with Sam, the koala, and Colleen Wood. You have to admit that she is adorable!
The koala is cute, too.
CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE FUZZY KIND!
The Green Party of Australia is just as dangerous as the “environmentalists” here!
It saddens me and it’s very annoying when ignorant clowns get airtime to rave about “extreme environmentalists”. This sort of post is far too simplistic and is just an opportunity for the prejudiced to air their biased views. The whole subject is VERY complex, ill-informed abuse does not help at all.
Disclaimer: I am not a member of The Green Party, however I AM a trained volunteer bush fire fighter, with experience of both wildfires and controlled (fuel-reduction) burns. I also have Bachelor and Masters degrees in land management and environmental science (including studying bushfire behaviour and management).
I live in a bushfire -prone area, 500 miles north of the current fires and have personally, with my wife, fought a huge bushfire (about 7 years ago)and saved our house (while we lost sheds, orchards, gardens and 19.75 of our 20 acres was burnt to a black charcoal crisp – and I lost some of my hair and eyebrows!)
I understand that the Greens in Australia have an official party policy, that controlled burns on a regular basis should be used to protect the Australian flora and fauna. This has not always been done “on the ground” due to some wrong policies, but mainly due to lack of will, staff, funds or the opportune weather conditions that are required to do it well and safely.
The original Australian Aboriginal inhabitants had sensible regular burns throughout this continent and good science has been studying this for years.
There are many reasons for the severity of these latest fires, related to climate, record severe hot weather, topography, the nature of eucalypt forest, the evolving state government and local government policy etc etc.
Let’s not cast blame in so negative and ill-informed a fashion. It’s time to study, learn and improve our knowledge and handling of the next emergency.
Poor little guy must of had a rough time, thank god he’s OK now …..did you see where the man that was very mad because they wouldn’t let him clear brush away by his house….his wife was killed when their house burned….lets pray for some rain
Thanks Dave,
The 2003 fires showed us that ‘grazing does not, in fact prevent, blazing’. High plains cattle lease areas burnt just as fiercely as the National Park.
The 2006/2007 fires showed us that it didn’t matter diddley squat if the area had already been burnt. It all burnt again and just as fiercely.
This time, after jumping through Mudgegonga, the Beechworth fire burnt through into Happy Valley and into the Keiwa through timber that was back burnt only 18 months ago.
The locals never stopped using fire to clean up, our skies fill with smoke every autumn once fire restrictions ease and controlled burning begins.
It wasn’t lack of political will in the face of Greenies that got the Kennett government to abandon forest maintanence… the Liberals did that all themselves in the drive to efficiency and restoring Victoria’s AAA credit rating.
Cost cutting where the city folk wouldn’t notice.
One last fallacy, indigenous fire use. The first people of this country used fire to change their environment, not to maintain it. Fires were started to clear trees and encourage larger areas of grassland. Grasslands that in turn supported a larger number of game animals.
Control burning for bush fire protection is a white invention… and as I mentioned, doesn’t work anyway.
