This highlights the fine line that Obama has to walk during this election. If he’s too much towards the black community, he’s viewed as being another Jesse Jackson. If he’s too much towards the non-black community, he’s not “black enough.”
Incidentally, this exchange is a clear indication of why Obama is not in favor of Town Hall meetings that McCain enjoys. It takes Obama a while to consolidate his thoughts on unscripted questions. So in this case, when the young man in the back row was expecting an answer, Obama kept repeating “hold on a second” and “umm.”
One thing I did note though that Obama needs to be aware of, this isn’t a Democracy but rather a Constitutional Republic. Not that this should be a ding on the candidate, but he should know what type of government he’s running to be the leader of.

Obama then answered the man’s question respectfully and honestly, it was one of the longest answers he gave during the whole event. The article makes it seem that Obama basically told the kids to keep quiet and dismissed their concerns, when in reality, he went back and called on one of them (out of a crowd of 1000+ people), so they could ask a question, which he then answered directly.

You are mincing words and selectively using definitions.
Your “Constitutional Republic” could also be refered to as a “Representative Democracy”. This is in contrast to a “Direct Democracy”.
The “Constitutional” part can also be inferred by the term: “Liberal Democracy” which means that elected representatives are remain bound by the rule of law, or Constitution.
The term “Constitutional Republic” also infers a lot about how the judiciary works to insure that a majority cannot step on the rights of minorities.
All in all, I’d say that all these things are subsets of the general set called “Democracy”.
After all: Obama is correct calling the United States a democracy in the sense that we are not a monarchy, plutocracy, etc.

I must disagree. It is very clear by our founding fathers that this is in fact a Republic, which is different than a Democracy. A good article discussing the differences between the two and what the framers of the Constitution stated regarding a Democracy and a Republic can be found here:

Additionally, this is why in Article IV of the Constitution, the framers stated that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government.”
It has become social laziness (no insult intended) to intermix the term Democracy with our form of government, but it really needs to be corrected so people understand how their government works and why we don’t operate by majority-rule. Otherwise, our Present could easily not have neither Obama nor the young man asking the question in the news today since slavery or segregation could still be a part of our life.

The sub prime issue was not an attack against the blacks. People who could never afford a house and KNEW IT went out for loans and got them as adjustable rates. Obama did not “handle” the heckler’s question, nor did he answer it. He simply refuted the premise with “yes I did”. That is a juvenile response to an accusation. He stated that he has spoken out “in the senate over the last two years”, yet he has the poorest attendance record of any current member. He said he was a “civil rights lawyer”, yet that was years before the specific incidents of death the young man was asking about. Then he basically told the kid he could vote for someone else or run for office himself. That translates to “I’ll take my ball and go home”. Childish. He does not stutter in the way a person with a speech problem stutters. He just does not think fast enough to fill the time between his thoughts with actual english words. That comes from a lack of core beliefs or the fear of sharing those beliefs with out a filter.

This video represents one of the many reasons I support Obama. First of all he addresses the hecklers directly, he doesn’t avoid them, he doesn’t have security or campaign staff address them. Secondly he requests they be respectful and doesn’t allow them to steal someone else’s moment. Then he does return to them, and answers their questions directly. Finally Obama answers them truthfully while not bending to their demands. What a great President we are going to have the next eight years.
Over the past eight years we have had leadership in the White House who ignored anyone who questioned their actions, refused to admit any mistakes by the administration and finally would attack anyone who publicly criticized them, even when the criticism came from their own side. It’s refreshing to see a politician who is direct and honest.
I tried to watch it. But I couldn’t get the image of a well-dressed Porky Pig out of my mind.
The guy who asked the question was a ‘n’ word.
Obama was smart in the way he handled that moron.
